Mixed feelings about this one. I was disappointed that I liked the directing since Todd Phillips seems like a d*ck. Pacing, cinematography, and music were all nice. Joaquin Phoenix did a great job playing such complicated character so convincingly. But the overall message wasn't clear and the themes on mental illness were problematic. Mental illness isn't the cause of violence, in fact, those suffering from mental illness are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Also the little person jokes felt unnecessary and like Phillips just needed some unfunny, offensive stuff thrown in there.

Vivid colors, little music, and convincing characters make this movie really compelling. It's a series of moments and experience that tell you so much about the people involved. This film is nearly perfect except for the objectively out of the place ending that leaves you thinking, "Did someone just prank me?". If you are going to make the end of the movie about finally having this fun experience at Disney, at least shoot it like the rest of the movie and don't throw in the obnoxious music that doesn't fit with the rest.

This movie is so sweet in such a real way that it is physically difficult not to enjoy it. Appreciated the complicated characters and very accurate depiction of a family going through a tough period together. Visually good, score was great, and was consistently funny. Call your grandmother now!

The characters in this movie don’t talk and neither does the movie really. It throws beautiful imagery at you and lets you read in-between the lines. You don’t even realize the characters’ names until 45 minutes in. Really enjoyed the clever angles, loud music, and intensely quiet scenes throughout.
