Sean Summ’s review published on Letterboxd:
An entertaining wee film with twist and turns that both surprised me and dissatisfied me.
The comedy take on the genre worrked pretty well, with plenty of fake-out jump scares that aren't actually intended to build up like your typical horror flick, but are used for comedic effect. And I'd say it works. Where I'd say Housebound falters is its horror. The tension is there, but the actual horror and real scares are lacking, which makes it feel more like a mystery thriller.
Nonetheless, it's pretty clever, I was on board most of the film and I snickered quite a bit. Also, wanting to 'smash a ghost in the face' is about as Kiwi an approach as you could take to this situation. Points for nailing that aspect.
