One hell of a movie.
As well made and intricately crafted as any classic film, The Silence of the Lambs is, at its heart, undoubtedly a horror movie. Much like classic Universal Horror, the movie is filled w/ atmosphere, amazing set design, and (most importantly) introduces us to an iconic movie monster in Hannibal Lecter.
An underrated aspect of the film is it’s subtle, yet powerful, portrayal of sexism and misogyny found in many male dominated workplaces. Not only does Clarice Sterling have to deal w/ a cannibalistic psychopath, but also the leering stares of male co-workers.
A blockbuster horror movie that does for serial killers what JAWS did for sharks.
