There are certain movies that I'd describe as "Pure [Director]." A movie that sums up a director's skills and tendencies so well that it borders on self-parody. 6 Underground is pure Michael Bay. Goodfellas is pure Scorsese.

Molly's Game is pure Sorkin. Machine-gun-style patter that's full of wit (even from the kids!). Copious references to great works of literature. Characters who are hopelessly noble, despite insuperable circumstances. Speeches in which people just outright state the themes of the work itself.

Anyway, I love it despite itself.
