Watching this film in IMAX, and knowing every scene so well going into the rewatch, has an effect of revealing the technical limitations of the visual magic that Kubrick and his crew conjured up, but that's more than compensated for by the vast scale and incredible sound system. The Stargate sequence in particular has never been more overwhelmingly powerful. I might go check it out one more time just to re-experience the majestic sonic textures. Or maybe I'll just look forward to cranking it up at home when the new 4K UHD disc arrives later this year.
Watched it with my family as we played games on New Year's Eve. A perfect film for such an occasion, not just because of its setting on that date, but because of it's "Christmas Carol"-esque message about doing better with the opportunities life gives us. "Lord, let my soul come to maturity before it is reaped."
I'm happy to give this film my highest rating, simply on the power of the experience it provided for me and the group I saw it with earlier this evening. I was accompanied by two of my sons, a daughter-in-law, a niece and her husband, all young adults . We all went into the film eager to see what Christopher Nolan had in store, and of the six of us, I was probably the most informed about what to expect.…
