A refreshing change from formidable period-drama to optimistic coming-of-age/trauma/film-set quarrel passion project. Unlike the prior instalment, The Souvenir: Part II demonstrates a more breezy and light-hearted approach to the aftermath of the first film, while still providing plenty of absorbing performances and wonderful craftsmanship at its core. All of the surrealist bits were magnificent (infusing a bit of film homage and emotional catharsis all at once), and that final shot is honestly an all timer!
