I know it’s always been your dream to wake up one day and be adopted by Nic Cage, but Mom and Dad is here to ruin that for you. Once you witness Nic Cage barking like a mad dog while chasing after his son in attempted filicide, you’ll never again be able to imagine him tucking you into bed after reading you the latest chapter of Harry Potter.
It’s mostly tight and straightforward, with relatable characters and motivations, and an incredibly easy to follow plot (probably due to its Manga roots). Blade of the Immortal is one of the finest action films of the decade, and a monumental achievement for Miike’s both in terms of quality and his overall career.
Going into this movie, you will know whether or not you’ll enjoy it after about 5 minutes. Not every movie has to be for every person, and this movie is maybe the epitome of that. If you’ve ever played and enjoyed a Warcraft game, I’d imagine you’ll get a kick out of seeing these complex, wonderful characters brought to life. I had a blast with it, but the movie isn’t without it’s faults. I completely empathize with those left cold and annoyed by it, but if Mad Max by way of Spring Breakers sounds appealing, it’s worth a shot.
