"friendship is serious - maybe even more than love."
there's a heck of a lot of truth in this movie. a heck of a lot.
the middle portion of a Venn Diagram between Hong Sang-soo (duh) and MAMMA MIA! the many desperate faces of man. and possibly the only Rohmer film to feature a cameo from an Oasis poster.
love the film's slippery conception of time, a significant fraction of its running time comprised of title cards announcing the date. days and people sliding into each other, seeing every small step that leads to a particular predicament and still trying to make sense of how we got there... not unlike BOYHOOD in that respect, but much more romantic. the choreography in the first make-out scene is one of the truest things i've seen. almost as if Rohmer had been in one or two of those situations himself, over the years.
