Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials ★★★½

sure, the best parts of this (beautifully staged) middle chapter are ripped straight from The Last of Us, and sure the movie doesn't make a lick of what the old ones call "sense," but its scale and temperament and Rosa Salazar with a sniper rifle clinch this as *by far* the best YA novel of the post-Potter wave. i find myself almost... excited(?) for the third one. if only because both of the first two installments exude a genuine sense of place and Patricia Clarkson.
