David James 🍩’s review published on Letterboxd:
Mulholland Drive was the looking glass through which I traveled twenty years ago into a realm from which I've never returned. It marks the place where the magic of cinema deepened and the mysteries it held got weirder and it will never end, never stop beguiling me. There are few movies, even among my five-starred ones on here, that feel like total magic every single time. This is one of the very best of the best, and my tastes, my life wouldn't be the same without it.
For this viewing, I salute my late friend Jon Ginka, who used to watch Mulholland Drive with me all the time in the early 2000s, even though he called it the "headache movie" - you were a real one, man. Always down for adventure with your friends. Wish we could have gone on this adventure together one more time. Silencio.
My first review focused on how this movie is the core, the crux, the key to David Lynch's body of work, if anyone's curious. Tonight, I'm just leaving it brief and thinking about my old friend and our shared memories that echo every time I revisit one of my favorite movies <3
