David James’s review published on Letterboxd:
So obviously Firefly was influenced by Star Wars and now we've got an actual Star Wars movie clearly influenced by Firefly. It kept happening every few minutes: "this is mega-budget Firefly cosplaying as Star Wars." Unfortunately it lacks the personality and rough-edged charm of that TV show. But really the worst part is how it has a big obvious checklist of fanservice moments that you can just see being ticked off as it goes along. Made me nostalgic for 90s Star Wars video games, where "off-brand" things happened all the time, enriching the fictional universe instead of trying to codify it. Which is kinda the inverse of what Rogue One felt like, where it simply reminded me of what those 90s video games did with this world, rather than make me wish I was playing them instead.
