I spent basically the whole time watching wondering how anyone could ever find any redeeming qualities whatsoever with a guy like this.
Which is kind of the point of the movie I guess.
The main character narrates things that will happen in advance, although it's not 100% faithful (they happen differently), but I'm not sure if I enjoy that kind of story-telling all that much. Instead of wondering what will happen you're always wondering how things will happen. Might be interesting to some, even to me in some other circumstances, but I just didn't enjoy it all that much here.
What I did enjoy was the slow-burn process of the story and its raw portrayal of a broken relationship and underground parts of Taiwan. Had a "Cinéma vérité" feel to it which I enjoyed.
It was like living their lives with them, except their lives were shitty.
