Finally circling back to write more about this amazing little movie. After letting it sit in my memory a little, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and I adore it more and more , so I’ve decided to give it that little half-star boost 😌.

The Daniels have crafted a movie that is so layered and so filled with originality that I can truly say I’ve never seen anything like it, and likely never will again. The…

I adore the beautiful, flawed humanity of Erica Benton and the layers the brilliant Jill Clayburgh brings to this amazing character. We see her standing strong against the men who try to take advantage of his sadness, we see her apologizing when she lets her anger get the best of her, and we see her finding solace in the company of her female friends.

We watch her life in small moments, circling her as she works out all the shit that comes with heartbreak, rebuilding, and new love.

This one was really, really special. ❤️

Lots of good fun stuff here, especially within the filmmaking, but the writing gets a little heavy-handed and seemingly tries to recreate the magic that is the end of The Sixth Sense, and it just doesn’t come close.

It’s simply exquisite. Zhao’s camera hovers around Fern as if pulled in by the gravitational force that is Frances McDormand.

Everyone has a reason they’re here and all of them are grieving: grieving the loss of a job, grieving the loss of their parents, grieving the eventual loss of their own life, or in Fern’s case, grieving the loss of her husband and the life they shared together. In a way, she’s stuck here, only because she’s not ready to stop grieving and let go of the memories of her Bo. “And that’s okay.”

It’s almost as though someone opened up my brain and decided to make a movie musical that played into every single one of my tastes. like, holy shit.

Where do I begin? I just absolutely adored every second of this.

We already knew Lin-Manuel Miranda was a genius (regardless of your opinion on him), yet somehow he just proved that he’s got way more in him than just some brilliant songwriting… his direction here pops off the screen like a…
