    Ford's first film after getting out of the Navy, and boy is it bleak! The battle scenes are extraordinary though. I assume this is from Ford photographing real battles in the war and then now being able to control where he could put the camera better in the fictional battles.

    "This is a dirty war we're fighting... and we gotta fight it the right way."

    Not too dissimilar than other John Wayne War films but it's very watchable. The cinematography is really subtly beautiful (and almost noir-esque at times!), and I also liked that this film made during the war doesn't shy away from showing some of the darker aspects of the war in the Pacific.

    The world needs Mr. Rogers now, just as much as it always has.

    Wow, this was a lot more relevant than I thought it even could be. It's always a relief when a film has this much hype, and it can actually still surprise you.
