Lucas’s review published on Letterboxd:
Part of the 31 Days of Horror
The thing I love about The Innkeepers, is how much is done with very little. What I mean is that this film does not contain a lot of gore, or brutal death scenes, or big scary men with axes. What it does contain, is a very subtle and persistent villain, who is gradually developed over the course of the film into something that is legitimately frightening. Additionally, The Innkeepers has a small but very talented cast. That statement is directed mostly at Sara Paxton but applies to the other cast members as well. Paxton is perfect in the role of Claire. Her character is so charmingly awkward and quirky that it is impossible not to love her; and this is due almost entirely to Paxton's performance. The one thing that keeps me from giving this a higher rating is the ending. It happens so quickly and felt a little rushed. If a few more minutes had been spent developing and explaining the conclusion then I would definitely give this four stars. But that's just my opinion, maybe a few more minutes would have caused the film to feel superfluous and as if it were overstaying its welcome. Overall, The Innkeepers is a great film and IMDb is full of shit with its 5.6 rating.
