Nathan Anderson’s review published on Letterboxd:
While the junior Cronenberg does share similarities with his father, in that their films have similar theming and motifs-- largely, exploring the fragility of the human body and mind... to call him a copy is disingenuous.
Possessor presents the potentiality of the bizarre and creepy Cyberpunk future that many of us are fearing-- bleak, techno-driven societies ruled by corporations whose motivations are inherently evil and wrong, but nevertheless unclear and convoluted. It has that uncanny '5 minutes into the future' feeling, rather than bathing in the neon, kaleidoscopic quasi-punk superficiality the genre has become reduced to in popular culture.
For real though, Brandon Cronenberg could be a viable option for director if the dreaded Neuromancer adaptation ever gets off the ground.
