  • Aladdin

    Aladdin

    ★★★

I usually ignore these live action remakes but Aladdin is probably my favourite Disney film so wth.

    Pros:
    - Will Smith's genie (yeah for real)
    - Costumes
    - Nasim Pedrad
    - The heart's in the right place with updates to fit 2019 politics

    Cons:
    - Most new scenes and characters fall flat (Jasmine's new song is good though, but the staging isn't)
    - CGI looks like shit, always inferior to the original animation
    - Completely unnecessary

honestly, preparing two fried egg sandwiches, pulling up a blanket and watching a good romcom on a thursday night is the best kind of movie experience.

A lot better on second watch for some reason. Ferguson is boss. And isn't it kinda weird that both Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation feature prominent Swedish-speaking characters?

Between this and the also-great 2016 adaptation, I feel that I should probably read the book at some point.
