There's something so familiar to me about Kelly Reichardt's movies. (Well, the two I've seen so far.) Both this and River of Grass feel like movies I saw when I was younger, perhaps as something thrown on a daycare television to quell a bunch of restless rugrats. I don't think I have seen them before (because I was 16 in 2008) but that's maybe why I really gelled with this one. It's a simple, naturalistic-feeling film and there's a real sweetness to her relationship with the security guard. But it was also maybe the worst, most stressful movie for me to watch as someone who just adopted a dog a month ago! Can't recommend enough that you do not watch this movie if you adopted a dog a month ago.
Also, sorry to the next white teen boy I see working the grocery store because it's on sight. For Lucy.
