The Brothers Bloom 2008
Ryan Johnson’s the kind of filmmaker where all the individual pieces are usually great but when assembled as a whole can lead to some awkward tangling of ideas, and with this film I think that problem is at its most prevalent. It is still a deeply idiosyncratic work but can’t help but think this is him trying his hand at a twee Wes Anderson styled caper but just completely getting in his own way to make sure this movie has a defined sense of “style.”Really uninteresting stuff with absolutely no narrative momentum. Think it’s his only real misfire so far.

Wrong kid died. Also kind of a stealth Dirty Harry sequel? Absolutely get finding this repugnant but I sort of didn’t mind some of it. Clint can be a total reactionary but I think there’s a real human, pragmatic quality in the films he’s directed that’s really hard to find anywhere else. Obi-Wan Kenobi 2022
What happened here? So dull and what’s worse, lazy. Production quality is flat out awful. Everything looks cheap and plastic at best, and at worst more like an embarrassing fan film. This Volume shit has got to go. Not an ounce of texture in any of these locations. Insane how in just a few years Star Wars has been reduced from THE film franchise to something resembling a SyFy channel level series. Not that’s there’s not a place for those…
