Sometimes when I dislike an acclaimed movie I say "I'm too dumb for this," but really I just don't want to catch flack and deep down I simply just don't think it's very good. But I might legitimately be unprepared to engage with this, as I have a complete lack of familiarity with the source material or the history behind it - my Shakespeare knowledge is limited, and although I can READ Shakespeare, God knows I cannot understand it spoken apace. Still, I found this engaging, I thought Welles was wonderful, and for the most part I managed to pick up the gist of individual scenes. Would love to revisit this after I have read the Henriad because despite all that was stacked against me I quite liked this.
