Jason Nickel’s review published on Letterboxd:
The style is cool, but I do wonder why everything needs to be 3D to be "better". It is not! Handdrawn is art and a choice, not a thing of the past. The Japanese know that.
Anyways, the film is ok. Does not come closer to the originals but it does have the same kind of comedy in it, mostly. Plot is weak and predicable. Why they had to include pop music from the 80s I don't know. All in all, it is just one of those unnecessary sequels no one asked for.
Missed the old voices in the German dub but can't fault the film for that. Rest in peace Hans and Edgar.
