I don't think they had any concept on any of the characters in this movie. Out of nowhere Malkovich has a drinking problem and loses all of his scepticism and calmness, next scene he's back to normal. The tattooed guy and the police woman disappeared without any buildup to it. And I don't know who that old lady was.
Also you can't tell me Sandra Bullock hasn't given her kids names for years. That subplot was stupid and pointless.
Great cinematics though.
