  • Joker

I promised I would come back to this film after collecting my thoughts on it, and almost a full month later I’ve returned to talk about how much I mostly  disliked it. Joker gives you plenty of reasons on its own to sigh at, from the wannabe Scorsese craftsmanship, the fake concern for mental illness, or the blatant overall Scumbaggery of director Todd Phillips... there’s no shortage of things to roll your eyes at. Perhaps the most egregious exhibit is…

    The Curse of La Llorona

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Who could have honestly guessed that La Llorona would be another soulless, lazily executed addition to The Conjuring Universe?! However much the previous films in the franchise have irked me in the past with their cheap scare tactics and dense storytelling, is intensified with this film because the source material hits so close to home. The well known legend of The Weeping Woman was one I, like many, heard when I was very young; passed on from numerous generations before, and to…

    Missing Link

Laika deserves a lot of praise for the work they’ve been able to accomplish over the years. The sheer artistry of their craft coupled with the amazing stories they’ve been able to tell, has made them a cinematic marvel that continuously amazes... and Missing Link is no different. Visually stunning to look at, and completely sincere in its message, Missing Link is another victory for the studio even if that doesn’t apply to box office numbers. And although the characters didn’t totally connect with me as much as in their other films, I still found myself genuinely moved by what this film wanted to convey.

    The Art of Self-Defense

I always forget how much Jesse Eisenberg shines in these absurd, dark comedies and yet, he somehow manages to outdo himself here. I honestly didn’t expect to have as much fun with this film as I did, but the moment I caught on with the tone, the style, and that awesome soundtrack (shouts out to Full of Hell) it just completely resonated with me. And I get that it may not be for everyone, but I’m surprised at how effortlessly…

My heart is legitimately still pounding. I would like to hop on the Adam Sandler Oscar-campaign-train.

  • It Chapter Two

    It Chapter Two

Maybe emphasizes flashbacks and “exposition-y” type scenes a bit much, but still delivers on the potential of the first film while also being a worthy counterpart. Bill Hader is absolutely the highlight of this film; delivering one of the best performances of his career, as well as the adult version of the Losers who overcame my main concern of not being able to live up to the high standards set by the kid Losers. The scares are just as plentiful,…
