Thanks, Shudder. Embargoed until April 19th.

    ★★★

There’s nothing wrong with the main couple. They’re simply both Scorpios.

  • The Last Blockbuster

    The Last Blockbuster

    ★★★

My favorite part was Uncle Lloyd talking shit about corporate Blockbuster. Also, Adam Brody interview(!).

I wish the rest of the film was as sweet (😉) as that ending. I have mixed feelings about this one. The cabin sequence was intense (and thorough), then it kind of fizzled (maybe that was the point?). Docked a few stars for clunky dialogue, shaky handheld, and the way the actual rape scene was filmed. I also didn’t find it as brutal as the internet made it out to be.

Dedicated throwback aesthetic that needed more gore, especially for the video nasty commentary. Reminiscent of something you’d find on late night cable. I liked this for the most part, yet somehow a feature didn’t feel like the right medium.

  • Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

    Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

    ★★★

This was fine, but it’s quite noticeably an adaptation of a stage play. If extended monologues aren’t your thing, you may want to skip.

    Wonder Woman 1984

I have a lot of thoughts about this one. While I feel #BLESSED to have seen this early, it’s not a very fun or exciting watch. Diana is lost within this story. She is reduced to a female pining (pun) over a guy she met 40 years ago, instead of being the immortal-ish badass that she is (or missing her girls!). The villains are interesting enough, until they turn into caricatures of themselves. Pedro Pascal steals the show and it’s…

  • Rogue

    ★★★

Bad CGI and a plethora of action movie tropes, but Megan Fox shoots big guns and stabs a man repeatedly, so I can’t complain.

  • Christmas Evil

    Christmas Evil

    ★★★

Not a slasher, but instead a layered character study.

Viewed as part of JOE BOB SAVES CHRISTMAS, THE LAST DRIVE-IN holiday special.

Your touch makes this pussy drier than sandpaper, you fucking monkey. I can’t wait to kill you.” sent me to another level. I really enjoyed the horror-comedy aspects, brutal kills, and pretty much every scene with Vince Vaughn. I cackled with delight at the title cards! Unfortunately, the straight “comedy” parts and teen dialogue (especially prior to the body swap) didn’t work for me.
