    Southland Tales


    Until last night I have avoided everything that's connected with Richard Kelly's Southland Tales.

    -It feels like Kelly went for his own interpretation of Mulholland Dr. (obvious)

    -This movie isn't cipherable at all but this is a good thing

    -Political commentary is pretty on point (but it ain't no Starship Troopers)

    -Performances are all over the shop and at times OTT with Justin
    Timberlake freaking me out.

    -I stand by Sarah Michelle Gellar

    -Musical moments are utterly bizarre

    The Battle of Algiers


    Gillo Pontecorvo's socio politcal drama builds a world of true reality. Utilising a newsreel style The Battle of Algiers shows two sides to a story that has been long forgotten. While my knowledge of this moment in history isn't strong I do feel that Pontecorvo has educated me. There is no forced drama or love story. The narrative along with Ennio Morricone score set a mood and tone of regret, lose and hope. Phenomenal film-making.
