The last time I watched this was in the cinema, some nine years ago. And I loved it. I thought it captured the comic book feel perfectly, was beautifully made and gave us some vintage Raimi moments.
While most of that still holds, I found myself rather disappointed while watching this again. I somehow managed to miss the unbelievable campiness of this film first time around. It annoyed me to no end. Every actor is either slightly overdoing it or going completely overboard. It almost felt like a big budgeted pantomime at points. While I really like Defoe as an actor, his performance is just too much here. I never really minded Maguire as Spiderman, but in this rewatch his wooden delivery and unconvincing emotions stuck out like a sore thumb.
I don't think I'll re-watch part two and three as I felt they were inferior already. I'll just wait for the series reboot.
