"Look sin in the face and tell it to go."
A lot of philosophical handwringing coupled with genre subversion that literalizes addiction as worsening vampirism. As such there are the requisite, banal parallels between substance abuse and dependence made more interesting by the ideas presented involving the toxicity of the human condition and its inevitability filmed gorgeously in black and white. Still one of the better if not best of its kind next to Only Lovers Left Alive thanks to sheer upending of tropes despite my minor grievances. Walken's bit's for the ages.
