The Villainess ★★½

I'd consider the plot convoluted if it was interesting in the first place. Comparisons to the Atomic Blonde problem in this regard are warranted yet Blonde's narrative was at least steeped in era-specific goings-on at the height of conflict. Just a slight fictional microcosm of something larger and more important. The Villainess on the other hand is something much more inconsequential - an overlong dissection of a bamboozled female assassin's pursuit of normalcy peppered with awful lovey-dovey subplots and agreeably gnarly action sequences.
