Aight time to rewatch The Leftovers
If you're going to make a coming of age film these days this is exactly how you do it. And I don't just mean adding something like the turn The Fits takes about halfway through. I mean telling a wholly unique story, about an underrepresented individual (preferably played by someone as gifted as Royalty Hightower), in a wholly unique way (the evocative score, the unflinching camera).
Oh, and a final sequence that leveled me more than any other in 2016 doesn't hurt.
If there was ever a small movie that needs more love it's this one.
