Big Rig’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’ve never seen any of the Saw sequels, and have just been given the series sans ‘The Final Chapter’, so expect some more of these in the coming days!
As a horror movie sequel, Saw II was never going to reach the standard set by the original Saw film (and where the original was by no means perfect, it was so despicably unique and raw that it has become infamous), but I found it to at least hold its own against similar gory horror films. As I found with the original Saw, Saw II does not seem to explicitly focus on the violent aspects of its display, but the motivations of John Kramer, which I really enjoyed. Kramer’s ingenious contraptions and setups are still something amazing to behold, and the discussion of morality and innocence is something that I really value in these films.
