Matt’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Miss Everdeen, it is the things we love most that destroy us."
This is a weird one to review and I'd say to basically ignore my star rating for the time being. Here's why:
Part 1 feels like it exists to set up Part 2. While it did feel overbearing to continue thinking about this while watching the movie, it IS necessary and I can appreciate why everyone felt the need to split this in half. At the same time, this is the weakest, most hollow and whimpering of the three movies so far. I'm sure a second viewing, with putting aside the "part 1 nonsense", will change my views for the better.
Also, this is mainly a Katniss/Peeta story. Again, understandable for backstory and plot but at the sacrifice of putting everyone else aside. Not nearly enough Sutherland, Harrelson or PSH (may he rest in peace) for me.
However, I will eventually rewatch this and come back with a second, more extensive, likely more understanding review.
