This is probably about as good as a faithful semi-mainstream movie is going to get. It veers deep into cheese at times but not as bad as it could have been. The main character is explicitly a counter-insurgency officer trying to put down a rebellion in the Middle East. You get the sense that the Romans were the ancestors of the Gestapo and the CIA. Other than that I enjoyed how most of the followers of the Jesus are like…

I kept thinking what process Amazon must have used to decide this would be one of their big movies. Like imagine some executive standing there being like "Abuse is big right now. So is male anger. We're thinking we could promote this on gun forums." And the boss says "alright, but change the name so it's not Bill Clinton."

Most of the movie I was like alright this is pretty good and the casting choices are great. But the ending was so good to me that it made it memorable. Somehow it didn't get spoiled so I was watching like a hawk.

It did pretty well in theaters but I assume they are going to remake it for re-release with non-Jewish actors to scoop up Middle America and overseas markets. Ben Affleck could play Howie. He'd own a pawn store in Boston. It'd still be the Celtics though.
