A Classic Horror Story

A Classic Horror Story ★★½

This is a tough one for me. It's not bad - actually, a lot of it is really well made and engaging and horrific and interesting, I can't fault the craftsmanship here. But the third act just makes this so incredibly unlikeable. This is just trying waaaaay too hard to be something the movie just is not. It turns on its heels from being a solid, somewhat meta, horror movie that is maybe slightly too shallow to pretentious and preachy. Blerg. I would have loved to like this more, because the underlying idea is somewhat nice. But throwing out every last bit of subtlety like this left me with the damning impression that this is a dumb person's idea of a smart movie.
