Perfect antidote to world weariness and a cold drab start to summer in Seattle. Color and connection, ecstasy without vanity! A little suburb of the arts, floating in a sunlit bay. Two Vardas for the price of one. They shine extra bright.
Yanco, a painter, can't help but believe in God. The bounds of his theology are expressed in two luxurious utterances:
1. “Like chlorophyll in a tree, there’s this secretion, this desire for Eden.”
2. “Hell is doing what you don’t like to do.”

Sleeping Beauty 1959
I watched this as a prelude to seeing Maleficent, for the first time since I was a very young child. At a scant 75 minutes, its plot is too simple and iconic to forget. But what leapt out at me, viewing the film as an adult, is how thinly-disguised its explorations of patriarchal sexuality are.
