Dara K. Marzipan’s review published on Letterboxd:
I've decided to watch Kelly Reichardt's filmography because she's the greatest.
I hadn't seen River of Grass before. It's a ridiculously confident debut, full of giddy humor, dreamy character insights and stylistic legerdemain. It's not the meditative pulsation I'm used to from Reichardt, but it plucks along with its own elastic rhythm. It feels as much of its time as it does of its director, while her later work feels more thoroughly planted in its own artistic plane.
And wow, that ending. Fake it til you make it, huh?
