The Master

The Master ★★★★★

When I first saw this film, I didn’t really know what to think. It was the second PTA film I had ever seen and I liked it but wasn’t sure why. It has lingered in my mind since then and just pops up in my thoughts at times. I’ve since seen all of PTA’s films and he has become my favorite director, so I had the urge to revisit this. I now have a love and an even greater appreciation for this film and believe that it is missing a piece at the end of its title. It’s a film that will get better and better with time. I think it’s PTA’s most complex film. There are so many different ideas and interpretations out there. The dynamic between Freddie and the Master is one of the most interesting relationships in film history. It’s a union, but also a clash of two sides of human nature. Enough has been said about the acting, but yes, it’s masterful.
