A detail I picked up on this time: the value of grunt work, and who's doing it. Burke says to Ripley that it's "great" that she's been working in the loading docks, even though it's the only work she's able to get; the position is a clearly undesirable one, and one that Ripley bristles about when it's brought up. But her ability to work a load lifter is what earns the trust of Apone and Hicks, and in the end it's what saves her life, and the lives of Newt and Hicks.

More value to the smaller things.

Watching this movie for the first time sitting next to my husband, who is named Josh, was very unsettling.

This felt like every urban legend, creepypasta, and nosleep Reddit thread distilled down into bare bones. I'm not sure it could have been made anywhere else. It's so ordinary and its characters are so self-important and insecure. It's an American ghost story brought to life, scuffed up and then abandoned like so much trash in the woods. I'm never going camping again.

This is lovely work all around, and a beautiful story, and it makes me want to reread the book.

My mom told me last night that in the fifth grade, she put on a play…
