  Some good scares but almost unwatchable in parts because I was cringing so hard. Performances, dialogue, music, clunky emotional beats were all lacking. Also the monster design was terrible and seemed more like an alien than a supernatural shadow creature.

  Huesera: The Bone Woman 2022

  ★★★★½ Watched 22 May 2023

  This is one of the best horror films I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t know if I’ve seen a film so deftly and intricately address women’s anxieties around motherhood, identity, relationships and sexuality. Also body! Everything about this felt real and unflinchingly honest while also being shit scary! Beautifully shot, too.

  I HATE MALE CULTURE. Christopher Nolan is Michael Bay and you can’t tell me any different. At one point in this drawn out, cheesy, nonsensical movie the only woman character (who exists only to be pushed around on a literal stretcher and periodically saved at all costs) is told that the whole world is at danger of being destroyed. To which she replies ‘...including my son!’

  Self indulgent, contrived, cynical bullshit. Hate that I even sat through that third act. Ironic that a movie like this forces audiences to sit and ‘appreciate’ a white man’s self important expression of women’s experience of the world.
