The best Black Mirror episodes don't have the air of self-importance that this has and function all the better for it
Great until it's awful. Would've made for a nice, Weerasethakul-inspired short film but starts to feel like self-parody around the halfway mark in its current state. The back half is painfully pretentious, far astray from the lovely first section.
Also, a throwaway observation: I'm pretty sure this steals a major plot device from Interstellar – which is definitely not somewhere you want to be stealing plot points from.
“Maybe love … transcends time and space!"
Yeah righto. A gorgeous film dragged down by lazy, hollow storytelling. Also just turns really terrible and absurd in its last quarter. But maybe I need to watch this again. I don't know. I just didn't have a great time and that's with IMAX and champagne and everything. Mostly disappointing.
