Dominic Hayes’s review published on Letterboxd:
I expected this to be bad but it was pretty fun. The writing is good and occasionally funny, it's well paced, there are a few heartfelt moments and it captures the essence of Sonic perfectly, especially with the slow motion sequences I really liked those. However I did think that a majority of the acting was pretty wooden (apart from Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, who I think put in his best performance in years) and the plot was incredibly predictable and cliche. But these negatives are outweighed by the positives and overall I had a good time, outside Detective Pikachu this is the best video game film in recent memory. Also Sonic flosses on two separate occasions and it is bad.
