Little Nicholas ★★★

Le Petit Nicolas is nothing remotely special or side-splittingly funny (We've seen it all before, in English usually), but its effeteness is not enough to spoil lead Maxime Godart's on point comic timing.

Following a gang of mischievous and monstrously adorable French schoolchildren (including teachers pet Angan, gluttonous Alceste and, thanks to his Cadillac-centred upbringing, hilariously money-orientated Geoffrey), Le Petit Nicolas has a nostalgic (and thoroughly unrealistic) view of childhood, where every supposedly coltish child is well-kept, polite and a stereotype. However, it's astonishingly charming and during the film's modest runtime, you'd be a real-life Scrooge not to have a massive grin on your face.
