Her first foray into features, Varda wraps a story about a troubled marriage in a locale that is finding their own problems in struggling to survive in the incoming modern world. I am delighted to see the amount of film experimentation on display, as well as the seedling themes of love, cats, and the adoration of the small villages of France. Despite the conditions they live in, to even live there for a time to understand how it all works appeals to me.
My viewing had been broken up into two parts, so I’ll save my final score for the second time around.
