Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure ★★★½

Two seemingly dumb teens set off on a quest to prepare the ultimate historical presentation with the help of a time machine.

Aside from one unfortunate gay joke cuz it was the ‘80s, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is an extremely silly but good-naturedly entertaining movie that works thanks to the simple, goofy charm and endearing performances of Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as the titular characters, who pull off just the right boyish energy. Ted’s constant jokes about Bill’s young and sexy stepmother Missy (she was a senior when they were freshman) still crack me up.

Ted: Now your dad's going for it in your own room!
Bill: Shut up, Ted.
Ted: Your stepmom *is* cute, though.
Bill: Shut up, Ted!
Ted: Remember when I asked her to the prom?

Plus thanks to the inclusion of so many historical figures, the movie works as a bit as teaching tool. My fav two are definitely Billy The Kid and Socrates, who form a pretty funny bromance, but Napoleon has some pretty hilarious scenes too. And watching it now, I had no idea that Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Go’s played Joan of Arc.

The movie is just a delightfully brainless comedy that still holds up. And I still say “Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K” on a very regular basis. Party on, dudes!!!
