i think this is so special to me because it’s one of the only movies to portray girlhood not as it is but as it feels. saturday’s at the mall spending my allotted $50 on body sprays, nail polish, and various high sugar snacks carried all the same girlish excitement as trying on custom manolo blahnik and eating laduree macarons in versailles. coppola lacks substantive messages but makes up for it in an intimate understanding of female adolescence
