Matt Wood’s review published on Letterboxd:
I mostly watch these films for the lore and cinematography, as opposed to the murdering.
And so it's little moments that I really love, like when John Wick hands a cab driver a gold coin and the cab driver knows what it is. Now my mind is reeling...do all cab drivers know? Is there anyone who doesn't know about this underworld with their own currency?! It's silly, but it's fun.
I also like the conversation towards the end about consequences and choices. "I've made my choice, now you must make yours." So much of its DNA comes straight from The Matrix!
I love the neon neo-noir moodiness, mixed with preposterous but dedicated world building.
I wish there was less slow stabbing, though, that's not really for me.
