This was actually the first film I saw at Cinerama after moving to Seattle. It was also the first 70mm film I'd seen at all and was only for the weekend. Lemme tell ya, quite a good Saturday afternoon. It's still a fun watch. One of the few large scale effects films that had it's own identity and style. Great opening and closing, just a half and half mid section. The humor kinda cuts both ways really. Like YEAH I get it. Certainly sells better than the more serious take. But there's always a ratio to these things. In anycase the monster stuff is all tops. Which is why I'll accept that instead of getting a motherfuckin' Metal Gear film, JVR is doing a monster movie in Detroit with Michael B. Jordan next.
