  When asked about the purpose, Warhol said it was to "see time go by."

  I had a free Friday off, so I decided to use the opportunity to finally get through Empire. Friday is the only day the Warhol museum is open long enough to get through the film in one sitting. It was a challenge. Four hours in, I wasn't sure I'd make it, but I am happy I did.

  This was by far the most challenging movie I've seen at the National Gallery, but in the end it completely blew me away. It's almost completely comprised of short glimpses of different film Jonas Mekas had from the 60s and 70s. A good bit of it is what looks like family home movies. There were also text excerpts from the diary of a 15 year old girl who had worked at the Anthology Film Archives for a short time before…
