'ere I am J.H.’s review published on Letterboxd:
I'm not enough of a Wes Craven scholar to know when he developed the sense of humor evident in his Nightmare and Scream movies. But while The Hills Have Eyes is not particularly gory by today’s standards, it's nasty by any measure. Ugly and harsh all around: the crude visuals, lighting, costume design, incredibly abrupt ending, and especially the grating sound mix.
Distractingly, one of the actors is a dead ringer for Nicolas Cage in Raising Arizona.
