I watched this Kickstarter-ed horror movie on Netflix before listening to a podcast about it. In many ways, it's a fun and affectionate tribute to the goopy, puppet-driven monster B-movies of the 1980s, like The Thing and Xtro and From Beyond. Made by veteran effects craftsmen, there are plenty of effective horror images and vivid creature designs. On the other hand, it's a bit dull -- so effects-driven that the story fails to make those effects matter. I found myself losing interest halfway through despite liking most of what I seeing as well as finding the cast appealing. I'd like to see what these guys can do with a better script.
