The Fan ★★★½

Nothing really new here in this tale of a teen obsessed with a pop star -- although, it does get quite a bit darker than I expected --but it's told with a fair amount of style, a lot of appropriately mood-setting 80s German new wave music, and a compelling lead performance.

For the first hour, there's a recurring insistence on equating the emotional fascination with celebrities with the type of devotion that is inspired by fascism, but I'm not sure how that works itself out through the disturbing final act.
